Shortly after purchasing our private Tahiti island in 1989, we started work on the caretaker house. Eli, our Motu Moie Caretaker had been living nearby with his family on nearby Taha’a, and only visited occasionally to clean and collect coconuts for the previous owners. He was now going to live here full time, for upkeep and maintenance of the island. Most of the building materials were shipped from Los Angeles, including lumber, kitchen and bath cabinets and appliances, and flooring. I have experience in construction, and with help from Eli and other friends, we completed the new caretaker house. Eli moved in, and still lives there, taking care of the island.
